4 Simple Ways To Enjoy Memorial Day

It’s Memorial Day Weekend. And what’s that mean?

Hot dogs, burgers and beers!
Maybe…

Hanging out at the pool!
Maybe…

Doing absolutely NOTHING!
Maybe…

Here’s What Ray has to say about that…

I say phooey to that!

Just because we have a long break doesn’t mean we take a break from our goals.

The sun is shining, which means it is a perfect and beautiful opportunity to get some activity in.

Now I want to be clear, when i say activity i don’t mean that you have to hit the gym.

It is a mini vacation after all. But there are still many things that you can do to stay active without having it feel like a workout.

1. GO FOR A WALK

This one seems like a no brainer, and it is. Walking is incredibly good for you. It gets you moving with little to no impact, gets your blood flowing which improves circulation, and it is a minor form of cardio, which helps burn a few extra calories.

If the weather is nice, why not take a stroll?

You can go by yourself, with your dog, with a partner, or with a group. Easy peasy.

If your town is like mine then that also means there’s a memorial day parade. Instead of just sitting down and watching the parade roll by, get up on those feet and walk alongside the parade route.

That’s an easy way to enjoy the festivities, get a little extra activity in and honor our servicemen and women. Win Win Win.

2. GO FOR A BIKE RIDE

They say you never forget, but far too often people do forget that riding a bike is a great form of exercise.

It’s so much fun to get outside and pedal yourself around town or a local park/trail and just take in the sights. We’re not talking Lance Armstrong tour de france type bike riding, not that there’s anything wrong with that, but for those of us who just want a more leisurely experience just a nice gentle ride will suffice.

Again it’s a great way to get outside, enjoy some fresh air, and burn a bunch of calories while you’re doing it.

3. YARDWORK/GARDENING

For some yard work feels like a chore, but for others it’s quite enjoyable and relaxing.

I myself love to mow my lawn. It’s another way to get some sun, get my body moving, and I feel like I accomplished something every time i finish.

Trimming hedges, pulling weeds, planting flowers, all of this is a great way to enjoy the day while getting some movement in, in a relaxing and enjoyable way.

Making your home look nice can sometimes feel like a chore but if you shift your mindset a bit, it can actually be very therapeutic and rewarding when you’re done.

4. OUTDOOR GAMES (Remember Jarts?)

Like I said before, it’s Memorial day weekend, which means barbecues. And a good barbecue always has some fun games out to enjoy. If not you need to reassess your social circle. Just kidding. But some fun outdoor games are a great way to relax and have a good time and get some light movement in. I know a big one is tailgate toss, or cornhole as some like to call it. You can throw a frisbee, baseball, or football. Kick around a soccer ball or if you have a hoop, play some basketball. There’s no end to the amount of fun you can have when it comes to games outdoors. And when you’re having fun you won’t even think about all the extra activity you’ve just done or the calories you burned.

These are just a few of the things that can get you moving this weekend, without it feeling like a workout. More movement means more progress, and more progress just gets you closer and closer to your goal. Have a great weekend everyone. Enjoy!

Thanks Ray!
